Working intuitively, Cuevas allows each piece to develop without a predetermined outcome, embracing surprise and discovery as essential parts of the creative process. The resulting works draw on mythology, symbolism, and personal iconography, inviting viewers into layered visual puzzles where meaning remains open-ended and fluid.

A playful, childlike sensibility runs throughout the exhibition, reflecting the artist’s belief that wonder, curiosity, and imagination are fundamental aspects of human experience. Cuevas describes his practice as a form of collaboration with a higher power, viewing himself as a conduit through which images emerge. The paintings combine elements of fantasy, spirituality, and cultural heritage, creating dreamlike compositions that balance humor, mystery, and introspection.

Born in Long Beach, California, and raised in part in Elko, Nevada, Cuevas is a Mexican-American multimedia artist whose work encompasses visual art as well as music and sound production. The youngest of eight siblings, he draws inspiration from family, mythology, and his Mexican heritage. After earning an associate degree in social work from Great Basin College, he continued developing his artistic practice while working in construction, pursuing a long-term goal of building a career as a professional artist.

Day-Riverside Branch Library
1575 West 1000 North
Salt Lake City, UT 84116
801-594-8632

Hours: Monday–Thursday 10 am–8 pm; Friday–Saturday 10 am–6 pm; Sunday closed.

Salt Lake City June 8 – August 7, 2026 Reception: June 17, 5–6 pm In IN THIS MANILLA ENVELOPE THE RESULTS OF MY INSANITY, Isaac Cuevas presents a body of paintings that explores the uncertain territory between imagination, spirituality, memory, and perception.
