In (un)contained: On Skin, Boundaries, and the Emotions We Hold, Jill Saxton Smith explores boundary and containment as intimate, political, and relational conditions. Working with algae-based plastics, SCOBY (Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast), textiles, and found materials, she creates unstable, process-driven forms that examine how rupture, sensation, and proximity shape identity, memory, and the ways we are held—emotionally and collectively—through change.

Jill Saxton Smith is a Utah-based interdisciplinary artist and art educator whose practice investigates comfort and dislocation, the female body, motherhood, and home through material transformation. She has exhibited internationally, including at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe, and is committed to accessibility and supporting underrepresented artists through teaching and community engagement.
