As the current exhibit on Islamic art at BYU demonstrates, a culture that eschews the figure can still produce magnificent visual art. Portia Snow, who shot this month’s In Plain Site photo shoot, would do just fine in an iconoclast society. Well, she might not like the veil or the burqa; but as she shows with these images taken around Salt Lake, she certainly has an eye for design. You may recognize some of the objects, but do you know where the patterns and textures are from? Makes you want to go find out, huh?
