Kristen Tye’s “Marymere Forest” is a vibrant and texturally rich depiction of a forest scene. The composition is filled with various species of trees that tower vertically across the canvas while fallen dead wood creates a strong horizontal base at the center of the painting. The forest floor is littered with fallen branches and leaves, adding to the naturalistic detail of the scene. Patches of light seem to filter through the canopy, highlighting areas of the underbrush and creating a sense of depth and complexity in the landscape. The colors are vivid and varied, with a dominant palette of greens, blues, browns, and hints of yellow. The brushwork is expressive and dynamic, contributing to a lively and almost mosaic-like quality to the foliage and forest floor.
Tye studied drawing and painting at Utah State University, where she earned her BFA in 2015. She has since moved throughout Utah and surrounding states, gathering inspiration for her art along the way — including Washington State, where you’ll find the Marymere Falls along the shore of Crescent Lake in Olympic National Park.
