Gilmore Scott is an artist whose vibrant and robust use of color pencils, watercolors, and acrylics captures the essence of his Dine (Navajo) heritage and the high desert landscapes of the Southwest. His art reflects a personal interpretation of his culture, marrying the geometric precision of traditional Navajo rug designs with the expansive vistas of his home region. This synthesis of subject and style fuels his creative imagination. Scott’s artistic education, which took place at the College of Eastern Utah and Utah State University, laid the groundwork for his diverse artistic expressions. Before completing his Fine Arts degree, he embarked on a career as a wildland firefighter with the U.S. Forest Service, dedicating nine years to this vital work.
