Frank Anthony “Tony” Smith is a long-time art teacher (now retired) who has taught at the Salt Lake Art Center (now UMOCA), Wayne State University, the University of Washington, and the University of Utah. Born and raised in Salt Lake City, Smith became one of the top illusionist artists working in the country. For Smith, illusionism serves the imagination to create magical environments and moments all played out on a two-dimensional surface. His work can be found in the collection of the UMFA, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the National Collection of Fine Arts in Washington, D.C., The Denver Art Museum, and various other national and international institutions.
