Bryan Hutchison is an artist and professor at Brigham Young University whose work is deeply influenced by his religious upbringing and its connection to mystical spiritualism. Drawing on passages from Mormon texts that depict wilderness, mountains, and deserts as sacred spaces, he reinterprets these themes through a contemporary lens.
His art often explores allegories of seeds, plants, and growers, reframing doctrinal concepts in the context of shifting landscapes and environmental concerns. Having lived in both Utah and New York, Bryan examines the evolving relationship between wilderness and human access to nature. His recent works reflect studies in presence and absence, offering gestures toward understanding our proximity to and disconnection from the natural world.
