To celebrate the holiday season the UMFA is displaying Brian Kershisnik’s Nativity in its lobby beginning today, and continuing through January 2. Kershisnik is known for his ability to put abstract qualities of human life on canvas. Rich in color and distinctive in texture, his work often focuses on depictions of self, family and relationships. In this nativity scene the family and child are dwarfed by a throng of angelic figures that crowd the space of the painting to marvel at the miraculous birth. Bren Jackson discussed this work in the December 2006 edition of 15 Bytes.
In conjunction with the display of this work Kershisnik will present a free public lecture on Saturday, December 6th at 2 pm in the UMFA Dumke Auditorium.
UTAH’S ART MAGAZINE SINCE 2001, 15 Bytes is published by Artists of Utah, a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah.
