Antra Sinha: The Elements at UMOCA

Salt Lake City
January 17 – February 22, 2025

Opening Reception: Friday, January 17, 2025, 7–9 PM

Sinha’s work masterfully intertwines the transformative forces of Fire, Earth, and Water with the art of sculpting clay, creating a harmonious dialogue between human creativity and the natural elements. Her sculptures reflect both the physical and spiritual processes of transformation, offering viewers a space for meditation and connection with the natural world.

Through her work, Sinha explores the journey of clay—from its formation by the Earth and water’s gradual weathering, to its refinement and manipulation by the artist’s hands, and finally, its transformation by fire into enduring ceramic forms.

Drawing inspiration from Zen monk drawings, Sinha incorporates elemental forms into her sculptures, each symbolizing an aspect of nature’s creative power. The tetrarc (Fire) signifies transformation, the rectangle (Earth) represents stability and sustenance, and the sphere (Water) embodies fluidity and meditative calm.

Sinha’s sculptures are not only a testament to the beauty of natural processes but also an invitation to reflect on humanity’s interconnectedness with the elements that shape and sustain life.
