Opening Reception: Thursday, January 16, 6:00 – 8:00 PM
Modern West Fine Art is pleased to present American Mythology, a solo exhibition by Salt Lake City-based artist Jerrin Wagstaff. This collection of recent paintings and collages interrogates the mythologies of the American West through a contemporary lens, inspired by the grandiose landscapes of 19th-century Romantic painters like Albert Bierstadt.
Wagstaff’s work deconstructs and reassembles these iconic depictions, offering a critical exploration of themes such as American exceptionalism, rugged individualism, and the exploitation of nature. Through his meticulous compositional process, Wagstaff reimagines Romantic landscapes as metaphors for the questioning and reconstruction of cultural narratives today.
