A New Play at the Rose Wagner: Tender Hooks and the Family Next Door
From October 4 to October 19, 2024, Pygmalion Porductions at the Black Box Theatre at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center will host a compelling new play directed by Fran Pruyn. Written by Julie Jensen, Tender Hooks follows the life of La Priel, a quiet, nervous piano teacher living in a small town in Southern Utah. Her world is upended when a family with five children, each with a different physical deformity, moves in next door. Initially frightened and fixated on them, La Priel finds herself grappling with her own inner turmoil and the effects of class divisions in an unlikely setting. Featuring Jensie Anderson as La Priel, Jane Huefner as her sister Margery, and Addie Bowler as Letha, one of the children, the play balances humor, creepiness, and tenderness, offering an introspective look at human vulnerability and societal boundaries.
