Anomalies is a solo exhibition by New Mexico–based artist Suzanne Sbarge, Ogden Contemporary Arts’ 2025 Artist-in-Residence. The exhibition features hybrid creatures in landscapes that reference Ogden and Utah, inspired by the last 150 years of human settlement on the edge of the harsh, saline environment of Great Salt Lake. Sbarge combines vintage photographs with living, extinct, and imaginary flora and fauna to explore how human existence is inseparable from nature, reflecting on ecological fragility and the fluidity between humans and animals, genders, time, dimensions, and art mediums. For this new body of work she expands beyond her signature collage and painting into 3D printing, cyanotypes, and stop-motion animation—characters gazing back at us as if challenging our assumptions about reality. In tandem with the main exhibition, Sbarge also presents Real/Surreal: Stories of Antelope Island, a mobile art project created with students in OCA’s Artist Factory program, featured on digital billboards throughout Ogden and Salt Lake City and as a full vinyl wrap on an Ogden city bus.
