A recipient of the Utah Arts & Museum Visual Arts Fellowship and associate professor of printmaking at USU, Kathy Puzey says she is currently working on completing a series she began last year. “They are mixed media objects based on the firewood that I’ve burned during the winter months. I’d like to end up with at least 30 of these objects. I plan to keep heading in the mixed media/sculptural direction.” The artist, who once thought she was destined to become a high school volleyball coach, had her mind changed in Italy after she chanced upon a workshop with renowned woodcut artist Karen Kunz, who convinced Puzey to follow her to the University of Nebraska for graduate work.
A video profile of the artist appeared in our October 2012 edition of 15 Bytes.
Every January we check in with Utah artists to see what the new year holds in store for them.
