Just before New Year’s Day, Christopher Terry (artist, professor and associate dean at Caine College of the Arts) shipped out a multi-panel interior painting intended as a folding screen for a home and then began 2015 by completing two “very simple” tabletop still life images for the USU Art & Design Faculty Show that opens in the Tippetts Gallery on campus Jan. 20.
“I have several new paintings I’d like to get started on in the coming month,” he says, “but I don’t have anything in progress at the moment. The photograph shows me in the midst of housekeeping in my studio. I’ve got plenty of blank canvases ready but need a little break before getting started on them. “The next painting will probably feature a beautiful, vintage illuminated globe I picked up recently. As a kid I was always fascinated by geography and my most recent paintings have dealt with images of objects that are actually light sources, so the globe is a perfect subject.”
Every January we check in with Utah artists to see what the new year holds in store for them.
