Vanessa Romo is an artist and educator based in Salt Lake City, whose work delves into human experiences, exploring themes of gender, identity, mortality, and the environment. Born in Mexico City, she earned her MFA in Ceramics from the University of Utah and now teaches at both the University of Utah and Westminster College.
Using clay and the human figure as central elements, Romo creates works that serve as gateways into existential questions, often drawing from personal and collective experiences of trauma. Her art has been exhibited nationally, with recent recognition at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts. Romo describes her practice as a way to process and communicate emotions: “Clay allows me the opportunity to identify, explore, and emote those experiences through my work. I am so grateful for this.”
