The Commonwealth Room Mural

Billy Hensler has created murals for a variety of clients: municipalities, hospitals, dentist offices, private individuals. And the subject and style can change with each client, from twinkly, light-filled landscapes ala Thomas Kinkaide to dark, chiaroscuro fantasy villains. Wildlife is a recurring motif in many of his murals. The mural he created in 2018 on the east side of Mr. Muffler (West Temple and 2100 South) featured a wolf in front of a large full moon. For the mural on The Commonwealth Room, a live music venue located at the 2100 South TRAX station, Hensler included a magpie and a horse on a wall that swirls with color and some sharply defined elements reminiscent of traditional graffiti writing.  The mural was completed in May 2019 as part of South Salt Lake’s MuralFest 2019.
