Jason Jones has created a captivating mural for Midvale’s Los Muros on Main festival. Located on the back of Nowhere Tattoo (7624 S Main Street, Midvale), the mural features a dynamic scene where a green tentacled creature holds an orange popsicle in one of its tentacles, while a red ray gun shoots a laser at the beast. The vibrant colors and playful elements characteristic of Jones’ work are evident, blending seamlessly with the urban setting.
Jones is an American visual artist born in 1975, holding a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts. After college, he juggled part-time mural work and concrete jobs until 2002, when he dedicated himself entirely to his art. In 2011, Jones began to explore the concept of sustainability in art by repurposing vintage artworks. He introduced his signature whimsical style by adding playful robots, tentacled beasts, and other imaginative characters. Jones hand-paints directly onto these vintage pieces, blending his additions seamlessly with the original color palettes and styles.
His artistic practice spans intimate studio works and large-scale public art, including three-dimensional versions of his beloved characters. Jones’ work strikes a balance between old and new, humor and social commentary, infusing a whimsical tone into each piece.
