ARTIST STATEMENT: My work explores my own relationship to the natural world, particularly the false separation we often make between nature being somewhere we visit rather than where we live our everyday lives. While some of my paintings were inspired by particularly wild places, the vast majority are inspired by plants and ecosystems discovered in my backyard or my daily walks in my urban neighborhood. I am particularly interested in native plants and the biodiversity they support, even in an urban settings. I pair delicate pen and ink drawing with watercolors to create energetic, playful and graphic compositions that celebrate the entangled relationships within various ecosystems.
ARTIST BIOGRAPHY: I am an avid outdoorswoman who has lived in a variety of landscapes within the United States, and I have found my mental and physical well-being are closely linked to my appreciation and understanding of the natural world around me. Born and raised in Salt Lake City, I am happy to be back home after a four year hiatus in the Midwest. I am a self taught artist, and, while my current art practice is primarily watercolor, I also work in printmaking and digital mediums.
