Stacy Phillips maintains two separate studios. And she likes it that way. In one, she works on sculputre and jewelry while the other is dedicated to encaustic painting. Things are very well-organized, with ample storage space for jars of multi-patterned beads (that become bracelets or shimmiring skirts for her female torsos) or stacks of cradled wood panels waiting for a coat of wax. In Phillips’s sculpture studio a bright light enters from a south window, while her painting studio receives north light from large sliding-glass doors. For many years a resident of Park City, Phillips now lives and works in Salt Lake City. She is preparing this month for a show at Coda Gallery in Palm Springs.
