Cathy Newton is the senior music critic at The Salt Lake Tribune, where she has worked in various capacities since graduating from Utah State University in 1988. She also is a charter member of the Tribune’s features copy desk. Highlights of her reporting career include interviewing Harry Potter artist Mary GrandPre, “Sesame Street” star Bob McGrath and her musical idol, Elvis Costello.

A photo of the cathedral of Segovia, Spain, taken by my husband from atop the Alcazar.
What are you reading?
Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison. It’s pretty trippy.
What is your favorite building in Utah?
The Salt Lake Tabernacle. Not just for the fantastic acoustics and wealth of musical memories, but because it’s such an inspiring example of pioneer resourcefulness.
