Reception: Friday, November 15, 2024, 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm

salt 16: Arleene Correa Valencia showcases a new series of portraits by contemporary artist Arleene Correa Valencia, who explores themes of migration, family, and the visibility of undocumented individuals in the United States. Born in Michoacán, Mexico, and raised in Napa Valley, Correa Valencia draws on personal experiences of family separation and reunion, capturing the anxieties and joys tied to her migration journey. The portraits, embroidered and painted on handmade Amate paper, incorporate reflective fabrics and discarded clothing that mimic original family photographs, weaving together her family’s story over three generations.

This exhibition is accompanied by a publication featuring an essay by Dr. María del Mar González-González, Assistant Professor of Art History at Weber State University.
