Random Acts of Art Knitters

On Saturday the Utah Arts Festival’s Random Acts of Art knitters will be installing the stitchery they have been preparing over the past months. The Utah Arts Festival and Art Access/VSA Utah have joined forces to cover Salt Lake City in handmade sweaters. The duo will gather June 18 from 2-3 pm to cover parking meters, light poles, benches and trees in handmade knitting or crochet.The grand knitting installation will be revealed on Washington Square in Salt Lake City to coincide with World-Wide Knit-in-Public Day.

Lisa Sewell, the Utah Arts Festival Executive Director and Ninja Knitter, was our On the Spot feature in this month’s edition of 15 Bytes. Sheryl Gillilan, Assistant Director at Art Access, discussed the Random Acts of Art project in her article on community art in the May 2011 edition of 15 Bytes. They will be joined by Random Acts of Art Project Manager Ellen Christensen and a team of rogue knitters.

A final knitting rally will happen during the Utah Arts Festival, June 23-26 downtown on Library Square.
