January 18th – February 28th, 2018

Opening Reception, Friday, January 18th, 6:00- 9:00 pm

Artist discussion at 6:30pm

Just in time for Sundance, Modern West Fine Art is excited to be featuring “Now Showing,” an exhibition of movie themed new works by Utah artist Ben Steele. The pieces will reference a variety of subject matter including Star Wars barns and milk cartons, Vermeer painting Marilyn Monroe, a giant typewriter typing up Clint Eastwood, Elvis spray paint, a Wonder Woman Pez head, an art world meets The Matrix parody, and A Rebel Without a Cause liquor store. It’s going to be a fun and dynamic exhibit!

With an education built upon classical training, Steele enjoys utilizing the processes of the old masters with a contemporary sensibility; never staying in one place for too long. The result is a wide-ranging body of work, not always still life, portraiture or landscape but often somewhere in between. His melding of art history and pop culture references keeps his ever-changing process current, fresh and exciting.

About Ben Steele

Ben Steele was born in Kennewick, WA in 1977 and relocated to Utah in his teens, graduating from University of Utah in 2002 with a BFA in painting and drawing. He has been living and working in the small coal and railroad town ever since with his wife, Melanie, and their two sons.

His work can be found in many collections, including Raymond James Financial, San Francisco Giants Executive Offices, the Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation, and golfer Fred Couples’ personal collection.
