Friday, Nov. 26th, from 6-9 pm + “Reverie” screenings at 6pm, 7pm, and 8pm.
For her sixth solo exhibition, we welcome local encaustic painter Bridgette Meinhold to her artist reception on Friday, November 26th at 6pm. The reception is open to the public and will feature local musicians and light bites from Savoury Kitchen. We will screen her short film “Reverie,” created with Eclectic Brew Productions, on the hour at 6pm, 7pm, and 8pm.
The artwork of Bridgette Meinhold is unforgettable, as each encaustic painting becomes the viewer’s own new version of their mountain memory. For the artist, finding beauty as we wait for the things to start, and accepting what is — even though we don’t know what will be — is the way to find peace in this ever-changing life. Finding grace and even relishing in the insignificant, little moments in between, Meinhold believes, “We will look back on this moment, these years caught in the pandemic, as the end of the old, and the beginning of the new.”
This new collection of artwork features local mountain vistas and aspen groves with resplendent sunrise skies and oncoming storms. Although she lives in a remote mountain-top area, Meinhold is not immune to the stresses of the world. Perhaps her view allows for a more global view. Her artwork and life are intertwined as one, and so it is that as we wind through the pandemic we see its impact on her work.
Says the artist, “This is a singular time right now, caught in the crosshairs of the past and the future. A past that had some good and some bad, and a future that is unknown, terrifying and exhilarating. Our lives were put on hold during quarantine and as we shakily emerge from the pandemic, we realize that we aren’t back to the old ways of life, but the future is not yet here. We can no longer wait in limbo, holding back for what may be and longing for the lives that are gone. New ways of life are constantly beginning, and we must accept that this is life now. It is all about what we make of it. And so we bide our time, because all time is all we have, and we lose ourselves in reveries, delight in the days that come our way, and wait for the morning light.”
