We are pleased to offer for the first time, a workshop focused on painting and drawing the animal, presented by Michael Calles. Michael has been a practicing artist for over 20 years. He studied at the Lyme Academy in Old Lyme, Connecticut before completing Bachelors and Masters degrees at Utah State University under Glen Edwards. Michael is passionate about animals and nature. He believes the best work and the most growth are achieved by studying the subject directly from life, along with studying the works of past masters and studio work.
This unique five-day workshop will be a combination of studio and fieldwork including presentations, demos and slide shows in addition to one on one instruction as you practice drawing and/or painting. Days 1 and 2 will be spent in the studio reviewing master works and discussing drawing and painting fundamentals (anatomy, gesture, light, shadow, basic palette, field and studio materials.
Days 3 and 4 will be spent at the Hogle Zoo working from the animals. We will use the knowledge gained from studio work to capture information in the field.
Day 5 we will return to the studio to put paintings and drawing together.
Each day we will break for lunch for an hour and a half.
