Kristen Tye studied drawing and painting and earned her BFA at Utah State University in 2015. She has since moved throughout Utah and surrounding states, gathering inspiration for her art along the way. Salt Lake Valley is now home to Kristen and her family of five, and provides endless scenery for her contemporary landscape paintings. Her work is available online and often at art markets and fairs throughout the state.
ARTIST STATEMENT
I aim to breathe new life into the traditional landscape. I do this with layers of color, carefully crafted to look like abstract vignettes up close, but familiar nature-scapes from a distance. Black lines show through from my underpainting, to emphasize the organic shapes and forms of nature. Warm, bright hues peek through typical blues and greens to add balance and vibrance. These fractured and sometimes chaotic compositions shed a light on the complexity and imperfect beauty of nature.
