Sparano + Mooney Architecture’s design proposal for the addition and renovation to the Kimball Art Center in Park City has been selected to receive the 2012 Juror’s Award for DesignArts Utah 2012. Juror David Revere McFadden from the Museum of Art & Design in New York City jurored this year’s annual statewide competition.

Sparano + Mooney’s design was part of an international competition held last year with 5 finalists selected to propose a new vision for the Kimball Art Center (BIG-Bjarke Ingels Group of Copenhagen and New York created the design selected by the Kimball for their new building, a proposal which received mixed reviews in our pages when it was announced (see here)).

You can take a closer look at the winning proposal, along with a wide selections of designs, prototypes, and produced samples by members of Utah’s various design fields at the Rio Gallery now through July 27. The exhibit opens with a reception this Friday, June 15 from 6 to 9 pm as part of the Salt Lake Gallery Stroll.
