John Erickson, a Salt Lake City native, earned his BFA in Painting and Drawing from the University of Utah in 1976, mentored by Alvin Gittins and Douglas Snow. He further enhanced his skills during a Summer Fellowship at Yale University, studying under esteemed artists like Wolf Kahn, Louis Finkelstein, and Phillip Guston, and later received his MFA from the University of Utah in 1981. Erickson, an Assistant Professor at the University of Utah for over two decades, teaches various art mediums. His works, inspired by his love for nature and outdoor exploration, focus on the interplay of interior and exterior spaces, combining man-made and natural landscapes with insightful depth and structure.
