In his solo exhibition as BDAC’s Educator-in-Residence, Jack Hattaway explores the concept of thresholds—those fleeting moments of transition that define direction, consequence, and possibility. His work, grounded in a deeply reflective process, captures the tension between decision and outcome, mapping a visual language that is part code, part textile, and wholly experiential.
From initial concept to final woven structure, Hattaway treats each phase of making as a decision point—an act of commitment that necessarily closes off other paths. His layered, vector-based imagery and intricate weaving patterns give form to the philosophical tension between potential and realization, echoing the artist’s personal negotiation of creativity, limitation, and choice.
