Ogden
May 2 – July 13, 2025
Opening Reception: Friday, May 2, 2025, 6–9 p.m.
In Into The Serpent, Taipei-based artist Lu Wei explores the darker creative powers of women and mother figures through contemporary ink painting. Drawing inspiration from indigenous cultures in the American Southwest and Mexico, Lu Wei bridges these traditions with the cosmological frameworks of ink painting. Her work is also deeply influenced by Chicana feminist Gloria Anzaldúa’s Borderlands / La Frontera, where the Serpent serves as a powerful symbol of femininity, the body, the land, fertility, healing, death, and rebirth.
Combining mythology, feminism, and cultural exchange, Lu Wei’s art re-envisions mythological and religious figures through the lens of personal experience and traditional Chinese art practices. The exhibition includes ink paintings, paper-cut installations, and artist books, inviting viewers into an aesthetic space where ancestral knowledge and contemporary identity intersect.
