Photographer James “Mac” Read presents In the Basin, Upon the Range, a collection of outdoor photography that captures the often-overlooked beauty of the Western landscape. Through his images, Read revisits the sense of belonging and wonder he once felt as a Nordic skier and wilderness guide. His photographs reflect an intimate engagement with nature, seeking to preserve fleeting moments of light, movement, and tranquility.
Read’s work invites viewers to reflect on the quiet majesty of remote landscapes and to find meaning in overlooked spaces. His artistic journey began along the St. Croix River in Minnesota and has evolved to encompass the rugged, expansive vistas of the American West.
