Heroes and Villains: How Myth Made Fantasy at Woodbury Art Museum

July 9 through September 14, 2019.
Orem

The heroes and villains of modern fantasy stories reflect the enduring influence of the character types rooted in Mythology. In this one-of-a-kind exhibition, comic book and graphic artists explore how our fantasy heroes and villains have evolved from myth and legend. Led by faculty member and comic book artist Chad Hardin (Harley Quinn and Wonder Woman), the artists invite the public to help bring life to an array of monarchs, wizards, and monsters. Help the museum create art of mythical proportions as we line the walls of the museum with original art ready to be painted by you!

Masters of Fantasy: The Art of Greg and Tim Hildebrandt

The Hildebrandt brothers are perhaps the most well-known and prolific artists of the fantasy genre. Identical twins, the brother’s original paintings, illustrations, and poster design, have brought to life iconic stories including The Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, and the Clash of the Titans. This rare exhibition of Hildebrandt work features the original paintings created for the publications for the Lord of the Rings franchise, the Wizard of Oz, Alice in Wonderland, and other famous tales.

Woodbury Art Museum is a part of Utah Valley University’s School of the Arts. Located in the mall at University Place in Orem, Utah, the museum brings contemporary art to the community, along with fun and educational family events and always at no cost to the public.
