Applications are reviewed by Salt Lake City Arts Council’s Visuals Arts Committee, comprised of local artists and community members. Review criteria include the artistic quality of the work, a diversity of expression, and a balance of media for the exhibition season. Other considerations include the artist’s ability to produce the proposed exhibition and the completeness and clarity of the application. Exhibitions based on community projects, such as school groups, are also welcome. The committee and staff of the Arts Council reserve the right to select individual artists from a group proposal, without offering an exhibition to the entire group.

Exhibitions are generally scheduled for six weeks in duration in our two exhibition spaces. Artists accepted for exhibition of their new work should be aware that their exhibition may be scheduled as early as January 2019 or as late as October 2019. Concurrent exhibitions are generally planned to demonstrate a range of media and style.

The Salt Lake City Arts Council will manage any sales of the artwork during the exhibition at the Finch Lane Gallery and retain a 30% commission for any artwork sold. Artwork that is sold may not be removed until the exhibition closes. Artwork that is not for sale may also be included in the exhibition.

The Salt Lake City Arts Council will be responsible for the final selection of artwork, exhibition installation, insurance, printing and mailing of announcements, opening reception, gallery strolls, press releases, and management of sales. Each artist will receive an honorarium of $200.00 for the exhibition of his or her work. In the case of a group show, the honorarium will go the exhibition curator or organizer.

Artists will be responsible for providing biographical materials, an artist statement, and several color images of different works that will be featured in the exhibition. Artists should be prepared to submit these items several weeks prior to their exhibition opening date. Artwork, an exhibition checklist, and consignment sheets will be delivered to the gallery up to two weeks before the exhibition. All artwork must be labeled and ready to hang using our hanging system or be installed upon delivery. Works selected for exhibitions may not be withdrawn for any reason and must be picked up immediately following the exhibition’s closing date. Artists must be available to attend opening receptions, gallery stroll where possible, and willing to give a gallery talk about their work.

Artists will be notified of selection by email by June 8, 2018
