Eric Fairclough’s work is a practice in repetition, perfection, and meditation. Creating complicated patterns is a way for Fairclough to explore the inner workings of his mind. Having suffered from anxiety most of his adult life, Fairclough’s art practice has given him a needed sense of control. Creating patterns requires precision and perfection, which can be found in his work, but upon closer examination, his paintings reveal an underlying layer of disorganization and chaos. Fairclough sees the juxtaposition between the order and disorder as a direct reflection of the inner workings of his mind.
