Encounters with cougars seem to becoming more and more common. Videos of hikers and trail runners in Utah making their way away from aggressive cats, all the while trying to convince them they will not make a good meal, have gone viral online over the past couple of years.
So it seems appropriate, in a way, that Emily Ding has brought a pair of the large cats right into the city for the 2021 iteration of South Salt Lake’s Mural Fest. The Texas artist frequently depicts wildlife in her easel paintings and murals and the work at 2138 S. West Temple shows two cougars resting beneath the stars and a crescent moon in a tranquil desert setting.
