At the recent annual trade show and convention of the Mountains and Plains Independent Booksellers Association (MPIBA), held in Denver, September 23 through 26, Catherine G. Weller, co-owner of Salt Lake City’s 80-year old , Sam Weller’s Books, received the 2009 Gordon Saull Bookseller of the Year Award.
Catherine Weller joined the Weller family bookselling tradition in 1994, three years after marrying Tony Weller. Prior to her bookselling work, she had spent a decade in library work within the University of Utah’s library system. Catherine is Sam Weller’s main buyer for new books and supervisor of author events and publicity. She does television book reviews on Salt Lake City’s KJZZ in the Morning program on channel 14, on the first Friday of each month. She is also a former president of the MPIBA.
In addition to their tremendous contribution to Utah’s literary art world, the Wellers also support the visual arts with their series of unique exhibitions held in the Gallery on the Mezzanine. The current exhibit, Ephemera, features selected obejcts from the recesses of the David Keith building.
