Call for Public Artists for the University of Utah Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine

DUE: DEC. 29

Utah artists are invited to submit letters of interest and qualifications for the creation of public artwork for the Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine at the University of Utah. This project is also open to professional artists or artist teams outside of the state. Artists of historically underrepresented populations are strongly encouraged to apply.

The Utah Public Art Program of the Division of Arts & Museums, in association with the Division of Facilities Construction and Management and the University of Utah, is seeking artists interested in creating site-specific artwork for the new Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine.

This new facility, funded by the George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Foundation and the Nora Eccles Treadwell Foundation, will be a state-of-the-art academic medical center. It will provide patient care for nearly 10 percent of the geographic area of the continental United States while training the next generation of health care professionals.

The Art Selection Committee is seeking artists who understand the value and role of the School of Medicine. Artwork should be specific to the medical center and reflect the innovation and discovery encouraged by the University’s health sciences programs. The design of the building provides many opportunities for the integration of artwork into the architecture and site.

The full description and how to apply is available at arts.utah.gov/public-art-opportunities.

The deadline for receipt of material from interested artists is 11:59 p.m. Mountain Time on December 29, 2023. Applications may be submitted at callforentry.org.

The Public Art Program was created by the Utah State Legislature in 1985 with the passage of the Percent-for-Art Act. This statute allows for 1 percent of construction costs for new state facilities to be added to the project for the commissioning of art that is site-specific to the facility and community.
