Utah State University photography students, led by Assistant Professor of Photography Jared Ragland, present Bear Lake Needs Assessment Documentation and Visualization Project at the Tippetts and Eccles Galleries. This exhibition blends scientific research with visual storytelling to raise awareness of critical issues impacting Bear Lake’s natural resources, land use, and human activity. Through over 20 field visits in 2024, student photographers have documented the lake’s agriculture, infrastructure, recreation, and ecology, while highlighting efforts to safeguard its future.
The Bear Lake Needs Assessment Project is one of 10 research initiatives funded by the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands and administered by USU’s Institute for Land, Water and Air (ILWA). Select images will feature in ILWA’s annual Report to the Governor and Legislature and contribute to a comprehensive report for informed decision-making and long-term management of Bear Lake.
