“Sights & Sounds” by Daniel Roache, at the Utah School for the Deaf & Blind in Salt Lake City The artists who recently completed three public-art projects for the state of Utah appear to be as interested in the possibilities found in the sheer scope of the works […]
Photo by Simon Blundell. Kristina Lenzi is finding middle age a pretty good place to be. “I’m a private person,” she says as we sit across a table in the Poor Yorick studio she moved into just a couple weeks prior. “I’m horrifically shy. On the other hand, […]
Joe Carter in his studio. Photo by Simon Blundell. Joe Carter might not look like a “Burning Man” regular, but this summer’s gathering is the first he has missed in years. “We went to Element 11, instead,” he says, referencing Utah’s new, cozier version of the enormous desert […]
Bonnie Sucec in her Salt Lake City studio. Photo by Simon Blundell. While her father was busy shaping his young daughter into a pinball wizard, Bonnie Sucec’s mother encouraged her to paint pictures on the walls of their Midvale home. And later, at Jordan High, revered Utah abstract […]
Photo by Zoe Rodriguez Long a big deal in Utah’s arts community, Victoria Panella Bourns has just been named director of the Utah Division of Arts & Museums – a very big deal, indeed. She’s one of those maddeningly brilliant right brain and left brain people who readily switches from […]

Once a stuffy place for plays, recitals and lectures, Salt Lake City’s Ladies Literary Club recently has become a stylish place for plays, recitals and lectures. Purchased about a year ago by a young and very hip couple who renamed it Clubhouse (to honor its previous incarnation), the […]
photos by Simon Blundell John O’Connell’s new work fascinates on several levels: they are abstracted 3-D compositions with spare painted portions that beg for lots of time to absorb. Mark-making and writing are there but mostly obscured beyond recognition; inexplicable cuts are evident in the surfaces of the […]

Wayne Geary is a big fan of Salt Lake City’s Main Library. He’s a frequent patron, and holds a Friends’ annual membership, which has allowed him to buy hundreds of CDs from the bi-annual library sales a day before most everyone else can. ”That’s when you get the […]
