Modern West announces ART FOR JUSTICE featuring work from the renowned Agnes Gund collection, curated by Nicole Gallo.

Agnes Gund sold Masterpiece, a painting by artist Roy Lichtenstein, for an astonishing $165 million. Her purpose for selling the work was to create a fund that supported criminal justice reform. The Art for Justice Fund seeks to transform the criminal justice system through art and advocacy.

Aggie a film about the life of Agnes Gund directed by Catherine Gund and produced by Geralyn White Dreyfous—founder of the Utah Film Center—will be premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival.

In conjunction with the Sundance film festival, Modern West is honored to be showing a selection of work from the renowned collection of Agnes Gund, art collector, philanthropist and President Emerita of MoMA in support of her initiative, the Art for Justice Fund.

A preview of the exhibition will open January 17th at Modern West in partnership with Susan Swartz Gallery in Park City, who will also be featuring a curated selection of the work opening January 24th to accompany the premiere screening of Aggie.

Modern West will feature the entire collection, curated by Nicole Gallo, February 21st opening to the public from 6-9pm.

Art for Justice will feature works by Kara Walker, Mark Bradford, Kiki Smith, Julie Mehretu and Rachel Whiteread, among other significant contemporary artists.

Modern West is a gallery created by Diane Stewart to support established and emerging contemporary artists who, in compelling and varied ways, reframe our understanding of the West. Through thoughtful exhibitions, the gallery illuminates both new and historical bodies of work that are relevant and meaningful for today’s audiences.
